You can learn a lot about a company by looking at its past. From the ‘Mesa Tribune, dated Friday, May 17, 1968, the headline reads, “$150,000 Blaze Razes Stradlings” After the fire, Louis Stradling was quoted, “Stradlings would set up temporary office facilities in the paint shop just south of the fire site. Telephone connections were put in this morning. Some 40 employees of the company will be paid their wages due to date, then as fast as we can, we’ll go back into business.” Stradling said that the company would complete jobs already contracted, then, when final figures on the total loss had been compiled, the company hoped to rebuild on that or perhaps another site. The business continued to grow, adding a hardware department and food specialties store, and moving in 1955, to its 32 E. Broadway location, where it remained for 13 years until its destruction the morning of May 17, 1968.Following that fire, Stradlings showed the integrity it has become known for….honoring its contracts with its customers and rebuilding, coming back bigger and better than ever. It took nearly two years, but Stradlings opened its new facility in April 1970, at its current location on East Southern in Mesa.
